Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) will soon begin relocating plants that were hastily and incorrectly potted in a run up to Global Investors Summit (GIS) 2025. The civic body will carry out a re-plantation drive for wilted plants before the monsoon hits the city.
As per BMC’s horticulture department, over 5,000 saplings were planted in 3,000 newly installed planters of various sizes ahead of the summit. However, many of these, especially medium-sized shrubs and indoor species, were found to be unsuitable for roadside conditions. Several plants have withered or begun outgrowing their pots, unable to withstand the harsh outdoor climate.
BMC officials said that the plantation was done in haste ahead of GIS-2025, resulting in the random selection of plants based on availability rather than suitability.
Now the corporation’s horticulture department is currently identifying incorrectly planted plants across the 21 zones of the city and they will be relocated to open ground, said the official.
The re-plantation and repotting work is expected to be completed before monsoon hits the city, ensuring better growth conditions for these plants and enhancing the city’s green cover.
"Relocating the plants earlier wasn’t possible due to the harsh summer conditions, which could have damaged the saplings. Furthermore, BMC has identified over 15 damaged planters, which will be repaired or replaced as part of the pre-monsoon maintenance," said BMC’s horticulture deptarment's AE, Promod Malviya
