Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): As summer approaches, it is time again for tribals living around the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve to venture into the forest and collect Mahua fruits. Since many people have lost their lives to tiger attacks during this period, tiger reserve officials have decided to train the tribals on how to keep themselves safe.

The Deputy Director of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, Pradeep Kumar Verma, said tribal villagers are being made aware of the precautions to take while entering the jungle for collecting Mahua fruit. They are being told not to go alone but in groups, and make a noise while doing so.

In the meantime, the officials are working on reducing man-animal conflict around the reserve. Villagers living around the reserve are being educated on this aspect as well.

Tigress to be translocated

To help increase the tiger population in the Veerangana Rani Durgawati Tiger Reserve, Damoh, a young tigress is being translocated there from the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. The tigress, aged around three to four years, has been identified and will be translocated by March 12 or 13.
