Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): A 32-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly poisoning her 10-year-old stepson to death in Gwalior, sources said on Monday.
The woman was forcing her husband to withdraw a bank FD of 18 Lakh, which was in the name of the boy.
The boy, identified as Nitin Mirdha, a resident of Badgaon Khurai under Murar police station area, started vomiting after having dinner on September 23. When his condition deteriorated, he was taken to a hospital, where he died on September 24.
The short post-mortem report revealed that the boy died because of poisoning.
“On the basis of suspicion, we detained the woman. She earlier tried to mislead us, but later she broke down and confessed to have committed. We have also recovered the packet of poisonous substance she used,” said a senior police officer.
The officer said that boy’s mother had died in a road accident in December 2017. As she was having life insurance, the insurance company gave Rs 16 lakh to her family.
The boy’s father Raju Mirdha, 37, did FD of Rs 18 in the name of the boy. As the boy's step mother was aware about the FD, she was constantly forcing Raju to withdraw the FD and give her Rs 9 lakh.
“Since Raju had refused to withdraw the FD, the woman decided to eliminate Nitin,” the officer said.
The officer said that the woman was in custody and was being interrogated.
