Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): Jabalpur police, on Saturday, have arrested two miscreants for opening fire at a liquor shop on December 12 under Khamaria police station limits. The firing was intended to threaten the liquor shop owner so that he could help the accused release his brother from jail, said the police.

According to information, the two accused have been identified as Rupendra Sahu and Sagar Choudhary. They had masks on and fired bullets at the liquor shop in Jabalpur’s Khamaria police station area 15 days ago. The entire incident was captured in CCTV footage, on the basis of which, the two were caught.

However, a key accused remains on the run. Police are actively searching for the fugitive.

Reason behind the firing

It is said that Rupendra Sahu orchestrated the attack to pressurise the liquor shop owner into helping release his brother from jail. When the shop owner refused, Rupendra and his team staged the shooting to threaten him.

According to CSP Ranjhi Vivek Gautam, Rupendra’s brother had been arrested on December 12 for involvement in illegal liquor trading. After this, Rupendra began threatening the liquor shop owner. When his demands were ignored, he resorted to violence.

30 cases registered against accused

Rupendra Sahu has a notorious criminal record with over 30 cases against him, including murder, robbery, and possession of illegal weapons.

Police launched an investigation based on CCTV footage from the shop. Using this evidence, they identified and arrested the two suspects. Ranjhi CSP Gautam confirmed that efforts are underway to capture the third accused.
