Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Around 2000 MBBS additional seats will be added to the government medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh, this comes following the accouchement of the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharam during the presentation of Union budget 26-2025.
As per the Union budget, 10,000 additional seats will be added to medical colleges and hospitals next year towards its goal of adding 75,000 seats in the next 5 years. The budget announcement regarding increase in MBBS seats will give more scope for the NEET UnderGraduate aspirants to take admission in medical colleges.
As per Directorate of Medical Education (DME), there are 4675 MBBS seats for 2025 in MP this includes 2275 seats in Government medical colleges and 2400 seats in private colleges. Final picture will be cleared after the National Medical Commission (NMC) gives direction regarding seats allotment, said an official. Increasing MBBS seats can help address the demand for competent healthcare professionals in the state. Similarly, Increasing MBBS seats can help improve access to medical education in rural areas.
Dr AK Shrivastava, DME director, said that at this stage, we are calculating on our own but around 2000 UG seats will be increased in Madhya Pradesh. However, the final figure will become clear later. “Prima facie we have assessed that the state will benefit with 2000 UG seats. In fact, the National Medical Commission (NMC) allocates MBBS seats through guidelines. The NMC also approves new medical colleges and increases MBBS seats in existing colleges.”
