Sagar (Madhya Pradesh): Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla on Wednesday said the goal was to transform Sagar into a water-abundant region so that it could live up to its name.

It will be made possible under Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan, which is meant for revitalising old water sources and promoting conservation efforts across Madhya Pradesh.

Speaking at a pond renovation event in Bina, Shukla praised the efforts of Sagar collector Sandeep GR for removing encroachments and securing over 80 hectares of pond land through boundary construction and legal registration.

Shukla highlighted the state’s commitment to healthcare as well, announcing recruitment for 30,000 health workers, including 3,000 doctors, to strengthen services under Nirogi Kaya Abhiyan. He spoke on the need to elevate the health department to the level of the agriculture sector, adding that the government lacked neither resources nor resolve.

MLA Nirmala Sapre stressed on revival of step-wells, rivers, and ponds, and urged communities to adopt rainwater harvesting and recharge pit construction. Sagar currently ranks sixth in the campaign, and the officials aim to make it the top-performing district.

Public awareness and collective effort were underscored as crucial to achieving water security in every village of the region.
