Bhind (Madhya Pradesh): Two armed robbers from the notorious Maya Gang, who had stolen gold from Anand Jewellers in Bhind, were caught in a police encounter on Saturday.

The police caught them late at night in Uttar Pradesh's Ater forests. Both suspects sustained bullet injuries, while a third managed to escape.

The incident began on Saturday around 7 PM when three masked men entered Anand Jewellers.

They fired two shots and held owner Anand Soni at gunpoint. The robbers warned him, saying, "Tell the police we have looted many shops in Mumbai. We are the Maya Gang."

Within 10 minutes, they looted gold and fled on a bike.

According to information, at the time of the robbery, Soni was performing evening prayers. One bullet hit the shop’s shutter while the gang threatened him and his staff. The third robber quickly emptied the locker before escaping.

Following the loot, the criminals headed towards the Uttar Pradesh border. Police chased them and intercepted them near Ater Fort. The gang fired at the police, but officers managed to capture two suspects, identified as Aansu Srivas and Rakesh Tomar.

Both suffered bullet injuries to their legs and were hospitalised.

Police confirmed the arrest and assured that the investigation is ongoing. Police are searching for the third suspect.

After the incident, local traders shut their shops, and Soni’s health deteriorated.

The CCTV footage has been seized for further investigation.
