Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Several districts are witnessing incessant rains due to a monsoon trough. An alert of very heavy rain has been issued across seven districts of Gwalior-Chambal on Friday.
Western and Bundelkhand districts like Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Agar-Malwa, Rajgarh, Ashoknagar, Vidisha, Sagar, Damoh, Niwari, Chhatarpur, Panna, Satna, Rewa and Mauganj will, too, remain prone to heavy rain.
Earlier on Thursday, it rained in more than 26 districts including Satna, Dindori, Mauganj, Datia. Rivers and streams were in spate. College exams had to be cancelled.
Water all across Bundelkhand!
This year the Bundelkhand region—infamous for water shortage—is receiving heavy rainfall. The inflow of water has increased in Rangawa Dam of Chhatarpur. All 12 gates of the dam were opened at 4 am on Friday.
The water level of Bansujara Dam also rose, and 3 gates of the dam had to be opened at around 11 pm on Thursday night. 180 cumecs of water was released.
3 gates of Kootni Dam will be opened today. 50 cumecs of water will be released into the river.
Poonaul Nala is in spate in Tikamgarh. Water is flowing up to 3 feet above the bridge. Traffic has been stopped on Jhansi Highway.
Houses collapse; families take shelter on rooftops.
Two houses collapsed in different villages. In the first incident, the daughter died while her mother was injured. In the second incident, a young man lost his life.
Nearly 200 families took shelter on the roofs of their houses after water from the Urmil River entered Dhamchi village of Chhatarpur.
