Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday termed junior doctors’ strike ‘Illegal’ and directed them to report to work in 24 hours.
The health services in the hospitals affiliated with medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh have been paralysed, as 3000 junior doctors have been protesting in support of their demands for past four days.
While hearing a PIL filed by Shailendra Singh, the court condemned the Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) strike especially in pandemic. The court said that doctors should not have resorted to strike, as it is a crucial time. The doctors’ act is not appreciated, the court said.
The double bench presided by chief justice Mohammed Rafiq and justice Sujay Paul declared the ongoing strike as illegal and directed the protesting doctors to resume the work within 24 hours. The court also directed the state government to take action against the junior doctors if they don’t report to work in a given time.
Notably, the JUDA has been staging a strike for the past four days in support of their six-point demands including a hike in stipend by 24 per cent. On Wednesday, the JUDA had accused the state government of sending police to their respective homes and mounting pressure on families to call off the strike.
