Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Admissions are underway in Class 1 in city schools with the new academic session scheduled to begin from April 1. However, there are few takers for seats in government schools, except in CM Rise Schools. There has been a decline of almost 50% in admissions to government schools in the city over the past four years.

Last year (academic session 2024-25), 4,899 children took admission in class 1 in government schools whereas four years back (2021-22), their number was 9,893. That means a fall of around 5,000 students. These students moved to private schools.  There are 836 government schools in the state capital. The process for admission has started from March 20.

According to the education department, the infrastructure of the schools has been upgraded and new facilities have been provided. Despite this, parents are reluctant to get their wards admitted to government schools.

Shift to Pvt school continues

The number of admissions in private schools has increased over the last four years. There were 16,723 admissions in 2021-22, whereas their number increased to 18,226 in 2024-25.

Parents prefer CM Rise school

The situation in CM Rise is opposite to that of government schools. Here, long queues were seen to get admission. There are eight CM Rise schools in the capital.
