Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A fresh list of police transfers is being drawn up in state following complaints that several police personnel, despite completing their tenure, were left out of the recent large-scale transfer exercise.

Officials said on Thursday that the revised list will include those policemen who had completed five years at one police station and 10 years in one subdivision, but were missed in the previous round of transfers.

Recently, the state police department issued transfer orders for 10,482 personnel across all districts. The criteria focused on tenure—five years in one police station and 10 years in one subdivision. However, despite the guidelines, many eligible personnel remained untouched, prompting backlash.

Sources at the police headquarters said that 5 to 10 policemen per police station in over two dozen districts managed to stay on, even though they had completed the required tenure for transfer.

The department has now sought ground reports from all district police stations to prepare a final and decisive list of transfers.

Insiders allege that clerks in offices exploited the system, ensuring transfers of personnel who had barely served a year at their current post, while some long-serving officers escaped. Moreover, some personnel were reportedly shifted to preferred postings, bypassing those marked as “disliked” locations.

Crime Branch tweaks system

When the transfer orders were issued, Crime Branch devised a workaround to retain personnel posted there for years. Officers introduced a zone system within the branch, mirroring the Commissionerate model.

According to officials, “We have divided the Crime Branch into zones. Now these personnel are no longer just Crime Branch officers, they are assigned to different zones.” This internal restructuring effectively allowed long-serving Crime Branch officers to stay in place, dodging transfer requirements.
