Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Former chief minister Kamal Nath has opposed the state government's land pooling policy, warning that it may harm farmers in future and pointing out that Punjab government had withdrawn the decision recently.

Nath said on Tuesday that the state might witness similar protests if the new law to acquire farmers' land was not withdrawn soon.

The state government has amended Madhya Pradesh Town and Country Planning Act, 2025, which was passed during the monsoon session of state Legislative Assembly last week.

The state utilises land pooling as a key tool for planned urban development, particularly within its Integrated Township Policy, which allows landowners to willingly come together to combine their landholdings for planned urban development.

Commission to study backward classes’ status

Madhya Pradesh Backward Class Welfare Commission chairman Dr Ramkrishna Kusmaria said that Commission would tour across the state to know social, economic and educational status and problems of backward classes. Along with this, it will suggest solutions to state government.

He was speaking after taking the charge at Commission’s office on Tuesday. He added that efforts would be made to provide reservation related rights to backward classes. Member of Commission Mausam Bisen also assumed charge on Tuesday.
