Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): An elderly Dalit couple was allegedly tied up to a tree and beaten up by strongmen of a village in Shajapur district of Madhya Pradesh. The accused didn’t even spare daughter-in-law of the couple. They allegedly tied up her hands and legs and threw her on the ground. The videos of the entire incident went viral on social media.
The alleged incident took place at village Bijana under Mohan Badodiya police station of the district. The victim couple have been identified as Siddhnath, 80, his wife Resham Bai, 75 and daughter-in-law Leelabai, 40.
In their complaint to police, the victim couple said they were under debt, therefore they had given their farm to a person of the village on lease, two years ago. But, the person forged the documents and encroached the land.
As the contract between victim couple and the person was exhausted this year, the couple went to the farm and opposed the cultivation being done by the person.
This irked him so much that he along with his family members and supporters assaulted the elderly couple and tied them to a three. When victim’s daughter-in-law went to rescue them, the accused also tied her legs and hands and threw her on the ground.
Later, some villagers reached the spot and rescued the couple and their daughter-in-law, the victim told police.
Sub-divisional officer of Police (SDOP), Shajapur, Deepa Dodve said that a complaint was received from victims and further action was being taken. “We have received videos and verifying them,” she told journalists.
