Madhya Pradesh: BJP MLA Rakesh Giri apologise post controversy, had accused Jyotiraditya Scindia's supporters of extortion

Bhopal: BJP MLA from Tikamgarh Rakesh Giri, who had recently courted controversy by accusing Jyotiraditya Scindia's supporters of extortion, apologised for his remarks on Monday.

The MLA was summoned by state BJP president Vishnu Dutt Sharma, after a video showing Giri accusing Scindia supporters of extortion during lockdown, went viral on social media.

"I was upset about some issues, therefore I made a mistake. I will not repeat it in future. There are no differences between me and Member of Parliament," Giri said after meeting with VD Sharma.

The source said that Sharma warned Giri not to repeat the mistake.

On May 28, there was a heated verbal exchange between Member of Parliament Virendra Kumar Khatik and MLA Rakesh Giri at district crisis management committee meeting. Following dispute, Khatik along with few MLAs of the district had left the meeting. Later, a video went viral wherein Giri is heard saying that Scindia supporters are dominating the district and extorting money from people.
