Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh is expected to receive heavy rainfall in the coming days. The weather department has issued alerts for several districts.

On Sunday, 17 August, very heavy rain is expected in Khargone, Khandwa and Burhanpur where rainfall could reach up to 8 inches.

A heavy rain warning was also issued for Indore, Dhar, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Barwani, Dewas, Harda, Narmadapuram, Betul, Chhindwara and Pandhurna. Light rain to continue in Bhopal, Ujjain, Gwalior and other districts. In Sehore, dense fog was reported in the morning.

On 18 August, the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall has been predicted again. A red alert was issued for Barwani and Burhanpur, where rainfall of more than 8 inches is likely.

Khargone, Khandwa and Dhar were placed under orange alert, while Indore, Ratlam, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dewas, Harda, Narmadapuram, Betul, Chhindwara, Pandhurna and Seoni were under yellow alert.

On 19 August, heavy rain is likely in Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dhar, Barwani, Khargone, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Harda, Betul, Seoni, Mandla and Balaghat. The rest of the state may see light rain with thunder.

On Saturday, heavy rain in Barwani’s Rajpur caused rivers and drains to overflow, leading to the car of Nagar Palika Vice President Akash Barman being swept away. Rainfall was also recorded in Bhopal, Shajapur, Khargone, Dhar, Seoni and other districts.

Senior weather scientist Dr. Divya E. Surendran said that the rainfall is due to a monsoon trough line passing through Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Kota, Guna and Betul towards South Chhattisgarh, along with a low-pressure area and cyclonic circulation. Another trough is active in the southern part of the state. Around 18 August, a new low-pressure system is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal, which may bring more rain to the state.
