Lung Infection Caused Death Of King Cobra 'Nagarjun' In Bhopal's Van Vihar National Park

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The five-year-old King Cobra, Nagarjun, of Van Vihar National Park in Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal died due to lung infection, as revealed by the officials on Friday.

According to information, the sample of Nagarjun's lungs and other body parts were sent to Jabalpur based Veterinary Lab. Here, the autopsy reports revealed that the serpent was suffering from lung-infection.

Director, Van Vihar National Park, Vijay Kumar told to Free Press the autopsy report was received by park's officials on Thursday. So far, it is unknown how the King Cobra developed a lung-infection.

The sample reports will now be examined, which may reveal the cause of the King Cobra's lung infection.

2 King Cobras were brought to MP

Notably, it was during early morning hours of Wednesday that King Cobra had died a sudden death. When park's employees failed to notice any movement of King Cobra, they went inside the enclosure, only to find it dead.

The death of King Cobra, aged five years old and named as Nagarjun, had sent a shock wave across the Van Vihar.

Nagarjun and one another King Cobra were brought to Bhopal from Pilikula Biological Park of Karnataka in April.

Out of both the snakes, one was male King Cobra, and was taken to Indore Zoo for coupling with female King Cobra so that they can breed and contribute to the increase in the population of the species in Madhya Pradesh.

The two King Cobra snakes were brought to the state under animal exchange programme.
