Khajuraho (Madhya Pradesh): Panic prevailed in residents of Beniganj village of Khajuraho district as leopards have started killing animals tied in the barns of local residents. In a period of two days, leopards killed two goats. Now, the locals are worried as leopards pose a fatal challenge for their cattle and pets.
According to local residents, three leopards entered the village from a nearby community forest area and attacked the herd of goats and mauled two of them to death.
Goats of Dhuram Yadav were killed. When villagers saw that three leopards attacked goats, some people raised a noise and tried to drive away the leopard. By then, two goats were killed. Dhuram Yadav said leopards attacked on Friday midnight.
Around a year ago a person was attacked and left injured by a leopard in the area. People say that leopards live in the mountain adjoining the village and attack as soon as they get a chance. Despite being informed, no steps are taken by the Forest Department for prevention.
Following this incident, the department officials urged people not to come out of their huts at night as they suspect that the leopards move in plains near the forest.
