Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): Families will be allowed to meet inmates at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Central Jail in Jabalpur on August 28, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

According to a statement issued by the jail administration, sisters and other eligible family members will be provided a special facility to meet prisoners in person. Visitors have been asked to follow the prescribed guidelines.

Registration for the meetings will take place between 6 am and 11 am. Visitors must register their names at the jail and carry a valid identity document, such as an Aadhaar card or voter ID. Each meeting will last 15 minutes.

Separate arrangements for male and female inmates

Male inmates will meet their sisters in the open jail grounds. Only female visitors and children below five years accompanying them will be allowed to enter this area.

Separate arrangements have been made for female inmates to meet their brothers on the jail office premises.

Family members seeking to meet inmates detained under the National Security Act will need prior permission from the district collector.

Limited items allowed inside

Visitors will be allowed to carry up to 500 grams of sweets, half a kilogram of apples, half a kilogram of bananas, a handkerchief, rakhi threads, samosas purchased from the jail canteen and kumkum.

No other items brought from home will be permitted.

The administration has banned purses, cash, mobile phones, gutkha, tobacco, cooked food and other prohibited articles at the meeting venue. 

If any banned item is found during security checks, action will be taken against the person concerned under prison rules.

The jail administration has urged visitors to maintain discipline and follow all instructions to ensure that the special Raksha Bandhan meetings are conducted peacefully and smoothly.
