Guna (Madhya Pradesh): IPS officer Ankit Soni has been made the new Superintendent of Police (SP) of Guna.

The current SP, Sanjeev Kumar Sinha, has been moved to Police Headquarters (PHQ).

The change comes soon after a stone-pelting incident during a Hanuman Jayanti procession on April 12.

According to information, the incident took place near a mosque in Guna’s Colonelganj area, where a clash broke out between two groups. There were reports of stone-pelting, and BJP councillor Omprakash Kushwah (also known as Gabbar) claimed that gunshots were also fired.

He filed a police complaint the next day, saying that the group was attacked without any reason.

Police registered a case against around 25 people on charges like attempt to murder, rioting, and vandalism. So far, 9 people have been arrested.

Earlier, SP Sinha had said that there was no stone-pelting seen in CCTV footage and that the procession did not have proper permission. His statement upset several Hindu organizations, and it is believed that this led to his transfer.

Two days after the incident, police filed an FIR against several members of Hindu groups, including BJP councillor Omprakash Kushwaha and others. The complaint was filed by ASI Mahesh Lakda. The FIR mentioned stone-pelting by Kushwaha and his group. Reports say the matter reached senior political leaders, after which action was taken.

Now, with IPS Ankit Soni taking charge as the new SP.
