BHOPAL: The mortal remains of former minister Laxmikant Sharma were consigned to the flames with full state honours on Tuesday. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former chief minister Digvijaya Singh and other politicians mourned Sharmaís passing away.

The cases against Sharma in connection with the Vyapam scam will be closed after his death. Nevertheless, cases against the other people involved in the scam will continue. The CBI has already given a clean chit to Sharma in a case connected with the Vyapam scam.

Sharmaís political career was outstanding till 2013. After his defeat in the Vidhan Sabha election in 2013, he was made an accused in the Vyapam scam. He had to go to jail for that.
