Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Gandhi Nagar police registered a case against an advocate for embezzling Rs 1.30 lakh from a rape victim under the pretence of filing an FIR, an official said on Tuesday.

Additional DCP (Zone-1) Alok Kumar Sharma said that the woman, who works with Swasthya Mission, lodged a complaint alleging that a man had forcibly made a physical relationship with her.

Chand Patel, an advocate by profession, approached her on Hatod Road and offered to help her file a rape complaint at the Gandhi Nagar police station. He demanded Rs 1.30 lakh, claiming it was necessary to get the FIR registered.

However, he failed to file the FIR, prompting the victim to eventually lodge it in Bhopal. When she later asked Patel to return her money, he refused.

The police have registered a case against the accused under Section 316 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Man held for online scam using Facebook Ads

The State Cyber Cell Indore arrested a person involved in online fraud through Facebook Ads. The accused Rahul Kumar of Alwar, Rajasthan, duped a local resident by fraudulently transferring Rs 37,440 from his RBL Bank credit card in five transactions.

According to the officials, the victim Aman lodged a complaint on December 7, 2019, stating that unauthorised payments were made via Facebook Ads using his credit card. After technical analysis and information from Facebook, the transactions were traced to Rahul’s Facebook ID.

Later, a case under IPC Section 420 and IT Act Section 66D was registered. Rahul Kumar was served a notice under CrPC Section 41(A), and during interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the crime. The SIM card and mobile phone used in the fraud were seized.
