Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): An IAF Lance Naik posted at Amla Indian Air Force station in Betul district allegedly committed suicide on late Thursday night, police said on Friday.
Betul Superintendent of Police Nischal Jharia told media that on late Thursday night, Lance Naik Saroj Kumar Das, posted at IAF Amla station, some 30 kilometres from the district headquarters, shot himself dead with bullet passing through his chin.
The SP Jharia added that he lived alone in Amla while his family was in his native Odisha. Post-mortem was carried out during the day after his wife arrived from there.
The body was handed over to his family members. He added that an investigation was underway to ascertain the reason why he took this extreme step.
HC seeks govt reply on Nilesh Advasi suicide case status
Madhya Pradesh High Court principal bench at Jabalpur on Friday has asked the government to file its reply on the status report of the Nilesh Adivasi suicide case of Sagar.
The wife of the deceased has filed a petition in HC demanding a CBI probe into the death of her husband. She has demanded conversion of intimidation into formal FIR, transfer of investigation to an independent agency like CBI and protection of her family members and herself.
In a petition, Reva Adivashi, wife of Nilesh Adivasi, claimed that her husband was abducted by alleged henchmen of MLA Bhupendra Singh -- Raghvendra Parihar alias Chhunu, Nitin Jain alias Nikki, and Ajit Rai . They allegedly forced Nilesh Adivasi to lodge an FIR under SC/ST (prevention of atrocities) Act against another BJP MLA Govind Singh Rajput. For the same, he was offered Rs 10 lakh, she stated in her petition. Nilesh had turned down the offer and this had annoyed them and following this Nilesh was abducted, physically assaulted, threats, coercion by alleged MLA’s henchmen which culminated into suicide on July 25,2025, she claimed.
Nilesh family further claimed that he was harassed by certain people in the town for some time but police failed to take appropriate action in the matter.
