Bhopal: Rewa police busted an inter-state human trafficking gang and rescued a minor girl who was kidnapped from Maihar temple on March 5. Police have arrested two persons including a woman and further investigations are on. IG Rewa Chanchal Shekhar said that teams of Satna, Rewa and Nagpur (Maharashtra) police busted the gang which had links with Madhya Pradesh, Nagpur and Chapra of Bihar.
On March 5, a 7-year-old girl was lured and kidnapped by an unidentified person from Maihar temple. The girl’s family had lodged a complaint. Police soon swung into action and circulated girl’s photograph on social media. While scanning the CCTV footage, the police zeroed in on a suspect, identified as Rakesh Tiwari.
Police found out that Rakesh was regularly visiting his ‘Bua’ Rani Tiwari in Raipur. Police got a tip-off that the kidnapped girl was spotted in Raipur and joining the dots, police swooped on Rakesh’s relative house and rescued her. Rani who was arrested from the house during interrogation revealed the whereabouts of her relative, Rakesh, the key accused. On the basis of her information, police arrested Rakesh from Nagpur.
The duo confessed to have been engaged in human trafficking and having connections in Raipur, Nagpur and Chhapra. They also confessed to have sold girls to ‘Ganga Jamuna’ a brothel in Nagpur. Rani had made an initial payment of Rs 2000 to Rakesh for kidnapping and she was to pay remaining amount after the handing over the girl to another member of the racket. Further investigations are on.
