Passengers apprised of ills of unnecessary honking

BHOPAL: CII Young Indians, along with Airport Authority of India, organised an awareness program Horn Not OK Please (HNOP) at Raja Bhoj Airport on Wednesday. The programme was aimed at educating people about the ill effects of noise pollution and makes the airport Honking free zone.

Informing the about the increasing noise level, the volunteers requested the passengers and those who come to drop and pick them up at the airport to use horns only when required. They informed that 90 decibels of noise can cause hearing loss, hypertension, heart attack and accidents and reducing the use of horns can control up to 80 per cent of noise pollution.

Airport Director Akashdeep Mathur said that everyone should join the cause and try not to use horns unnecessarily. CII YI ‘Horn Not Ok Please’ vertical’s national chairperson Prakrati Jain said, “The Central government will soon table a Bill in Lok Sabha against unnecessary honking and use of pressure horns. There will be a provision to penalise the errant drivers with a penalty of Rs.500 to Rs.10,000. Students from Bhopal School of Social Sciences performed a skit on noise pollution.
