Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The unexpected resignation of the veteran politician Jagdeep Dhankhad as India’s Vice President has stirred the country's political sphere attracting a myriad of doubts and questions about his move.

Speaking to the media, Congress MP Vivek Tankha informed Dhankhad was completely fine and healthy during the Monsoon session meet. He further voiced doubts and said something must have upset him.

“He was completely healthy. He conducted the Parliament in the same jovial mood. Something happened in the afternoon (on July 21) which has upset him... which may have also upset the government,” Tankha said, reacting on the matter.

Tankha also expressed concern, calling the resignation a ‘major loss’ to the country. He pointed out that important proposals, including an impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Varma, were scheduled in the Rajya Sabha.

“There might have been some pressure on him to resign,” the Congress MP added, hinting at possible political or institutional influence behind the decision.

Justice Yashwant Varma impeachment case

According to information, the opposition proposed impeachment of ex-Delhi High Court Judge, Justice Yashwant Verma, after massive piles of burnt ₹ 500 notes were recovered from his official residence.

The proposal was presented at the Monsoon session assembly held on July 21 and was accepted by Jagdeep Dhankhad, who is also the Chairman of the Upper House. He told the secretary general to take the required steps.

It is said, the central government was unhappy with this. By accepting the Opposition’s notice, the Vice President took away the government’s opportunity to take the lead in acting against the judge and raising issues about corruption in the judiciary.

However, no official reason has been shared for the Vice President’s resignation yet.
