Gwalior-Ujjain Trade Fairs: Bumper Vehicle Sales, Over 3,000 New Four-Wheelers On City Roads | Gwalior Trade Fair sold around 30,000 vehicles; over 36,000 vehicles were sold at the Ujjain Trade Fair

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Purchased in Gwalior and Ujjain Mela earlier this year, over 3,000 new four-wheelers are running on the capital city roads, adding to traffic woes.

In January, the Gwalior Trade Fair sold around 30,000 vehicles, including four- and two-wheelers. The month after, over 36,000 vehicles were sold at the Ujjain Trade Fair.

RTO, Bhopal, Jitendra Sharma told the Free Press, “Because of the trade fairs, Bhopal residents purchased more than 3,000 four-wheelers. At present, these cars are on the city roads.”

Citing the unified system, Sharma said it is difficult to give an exact number of the new vehicles on the roads, as now, a vehicle is handed over only after the permanent registration.

He added that the taxes are collected centrally; no local tax is imposed. While that may not affect the revenue, it has affected the traffic situation in the city, he said.

RTO, Gwalior, Vikramjeet Singh said, “Around 70% of the vehicles have been purchased by residents from the adjoining districts of Gwalior, the remaining by buyers from districts such as Bhopal, Sagar, and Jabalpur.”

RTO, Ujjain, Santosh Malviya said, “In the fair, 36,133 vehicles were sold, of which 27,000 were four-wheelers. Tax of Rs 186.5 crore was collected and was deposited in the state coffer.”
