Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Government Railway Police (GRP) is scouting for 30 personnel to form a contingent that can compete in marathons and vie for championships. The selected personnel will form a 'Super 30 Cheetah' squad and be trained to compete at the state, national and international levels.
The three units, Bhopal, Indore and Jabalpur, have been given the responsibility to select 10 police personnel for the squad.
The police department has around 1.06 lakh personnel, many of whom are recruited through the sports quota. However, a lack of interest, support and encouragement from both the personnel and the administration later prevents the department from making its mark in the sporting arena. However, some personnel go on to earn recognition in sporting events.
The ADG has promised better facilities for personnel selected for the 'Super 30 Cheetah' squad. Funds will be provided for special diets, while experts will be appointed to train them.
Marathon initiative during police training
When ADG GRP Raja Babu Singh was heading the training department at PHQ, he started the training for the 93rd batch of Constable Basic Training Session 2025-26. A full marathon of 42 kilometres was organised by the Rewa Police Training School, in which 410 constables participated and 28 of them completed the race on time.
It was the first time such a marathon was organised as part of a Madhya Pradesh Police training programme. This was achieved after just seven months of training.
Experts may be roped in for training
ADG GRP Raja Babu Singh said the search for suitable police personnel has been intensified. We are planning to prepare a Super 30 Cheetah squad which will participate in the championships. For them, if needed, help from the experts from Sports Authority of India (SAI) will be arranged accordingly .
