Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): To avert fire incidents at the forest area behind Indira Gandhi Manav Sangrahalay, police officials have issued instructions to take concrete steps and ensure proper fire safety measures. Police have already warned labourers engaged in different works at the GIS summit venue not to smoke bidi or cigarettes as it may trigger fire in dried up bushes and leaves.

In a meeting of senior police officials on Tuesday, ADG Sanjeev Sami instructed to take steps for averting fire incidents in the forest area behind Manav Sangrahalay.

Commissioner of police Harinarayanachari Mishra said besides arrangements by the fire department of BMC, police personnel will also be deployed to ensure that no fire takes place close to the venue. Moreover, police will ensure no inflammable material including matchbox etc is taken inside the venue or its close proximity. Fire Officer at BMC Saurabh Patel said the fire department has made adequate arrangements to handle fire incidents.

Around half-a-dozen fire trucks will be at the spot with two water tankers each with a capacity of 18k litres of water. Seven firefighters will be present at the venue during the summit and will be equipped with two fire bullets. Moreover, around 100 fire extinguishers have been provided to the museum which will be kept at strategic places and can even be used in case fire erupts in the forest area, he added.

Six metres of area to be cleared

Around six metres of area behind Manav Sangrahalay will be cleared of bushes and dried leaves to separate the venue with the forest area. Fire officials said that the step has been taken to ensure that in case of any such incident, fire does not spread towards the Museum and pose a threat.
