Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A Eurasian Griffon vulture, geo-tagged and released by Van Vihar National Park officials on March 29, has now reached the upper areas of Tashkent, according to its latest recorded location. However, it remains uncertain where the vulture will eventually settle.

Officials said that the vulture had separated from its group during the winter season in Satna and was rescued in a weak state. It was brought to Van Vihar for medical care and later shifted to the Vulture Conservation Centre for advanced recovery.

The geo-tagging is helping conservationists study the migration patterns of the Eurasian Griffon and understand how such vultures travel to Madhya Pradesh during winter.

After being released near Halali Dam, the vulture rejoined a flock and began its journey. It has since flown through Pakistan and Afghanistan before reaching Tashkent.

“There’s a possibility it may have now moved beyond Tashkent,” said park officials, who continue to closely monitor its movements via satellite data.

King Cobras draw crowd to Van Vihar

The arrival of two male King Cobra snakes at Van Vihar has sparked a surge in visitor numbers. Deputy Director Sandesh Maheshwari said that people are flocking to see the world’s most venomous snakes.

The enclosure was inaugurated on Thursday night by CM Mohan Yadav, and opened for public viewing from Saturday. These King Cobras were brought from Pilikula Biological Park, Bengaluru, and have quickly become a major attraction.
