Alirajpur : The Gauraksha Samiti of Alirajpur on Monday caught 125 cows at block Sondwa. The cows were packed in five trucks and were being transported to various butcheries in Maharashtra via water route through Narmada.
Around 10 cows lost their lives because of various reasons, which developed while they were hell-packed in the truck. The Gaur Raksha Samiti volunteers first tied the truck driver with ropes and then took the truck to Alirajpur Police Station.
Incharge of Gauraksha Samiti of the western region BL Tewari got a tip off, and had been waiting for the trucks since yesterday night. According to the information the cattle is bought from Kanwan area of Dhar and then taken to the banks of river Narmada where they are deported to various butcheries of Maharashtra.
BL Tiwari said that more than 20 trucks of cattle are transported to Maharashtra on a daily basis.
