BHOPAL : A 72-year-old ex-serviceman opened fire with his licensed 12-bore double barrel gun and killed two persons at Suraj Kunj, Rishipuram phase-one in Awadhpuri area on Sunday afternoon. The elderly former soldier was said to be enraged over a property related dispute. Subsequent to the incident, the neighbours caught hold of him and handed him over to police.

CSP Shiv Dayal said retired Havildar Major Harinarayan Singh, resident of DIG Bungalow area, had bought a residential plot number 49-50 around 13 years back. He had purchased the plot on agreement and paid Rs 4 lakh for the plot but did not complete the registry formalities. After purchasing the plot he constructed a house on the plot which he has let out. Around three months back a man named Aditya Narayan Upadhyay approached the original registered owner of the plot. He said that he would like to purchase the plot and would take the possession of the house. The owner registered the plot in his name. After purchasing the plot Upadhyay was forcing the tenants living in the house to pay him the rent. Harinarayan was enraged over this.

Upadhyay hired two security guards Nirbhay Singh and Suraj Singh Rajpoot on Sunday on a daily wages of Rs 350 per day and instructed them not to let Harinarayan enter the house. Harinarayan reached the house on Sunday morning and had a heated argument with Upadhyay. He went back after the scuffle and returned in the afternoon with his gun. He was insisting to get into the house. The security guard resisted him after which the seething former soldier fired two rounds and killed Jitendra Bhargav, 32, son of Ghanshyam, the brother in law of Upadhyay, and Nirbhay, 23, son of Shaitan Singh, one of the security guards.

Another security guard had gone away for some work during the incidence. Both the injured slumped to the ground after sustaining gunshots and were rushed to Narmada Hospital for treatment where they were declared brought dead. Harinarayan intended to kill Aditya Narayan but could not find him.

On hearing the gunshots the neighbours rushed to the spot and overpowered Harinarayna. They later took him to the cops. Six live cartridges have been recovered from his possession.
