Narmadapuram (Madhya Pradesh): The office-bearers of a voluntary organisation, Shri Samarpam Shri, garlanded a donkey and offered Gulab Jamuns to it to protest against the chief municipal officer of Nagar Palika.

They also brought to the public the failures of the district administration. An office-bearer of the organisation Swadesh Soni said they had handed over memorandums to the CMO and the district administration on various problems that the residents are facing from time to time.

But the officers do not have time to come out of their office rooms, he said. This is the reason that the organisation held an innovative protest against the officials’ apathy towards public issues.

Donkey symbolises an officer who takes over his new position, Saini said.

Whenever an officer joins a department, residents of the city welcome him with a garland, hoping that he will work for the public welfare, he said.

But soon after joining a department, the officer begins to take a bribe, offering Gulabjamuns to the donkey, which symbolises bribes, he said.

There is a heap of complaints in the office of Nagar Palika, but the officials do not pay any heed to it, he said.

The city has turned into a garbage dump, and the residents are falling ill, he said. The drains are not cleaned up, and the carcasses of the animals are thrown in the open.

The organisation said it would launch a phase-wise agitation against the failures of the Nagar Palika to deal with the problems, he said.
