Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A 67-year-old man accused a woman domestic help of taking bangles from his wife's hands and a chain from her neck after he and his wife fell ill from drinking tea served by her in Shanti Nagar locality of city.

Jawahar Lal Gupta lodged a complaint against a domestic help Sangeeta Soni for jewellery theft at Gokalpur Police Station.

According to police, complainant is a retired government employee, and the incident occurred on May 17, around 3:30 pm, when he and his wife Usha Gupta were at home.

The accused Sangeeta Soni, who had been preparing meals for them for the past 12 years, prepared tea and served them. After drinking tea, they both (the couple) felt uneasy, began to feel unwell and memory loss and lay down on the bed.

Feeling uncomfortable, he informed his nephew Ayush about their deteriorating health. Ayush came to their house and admitted both of them to the private hospital for treatment and informed their relatives.

They remained admitted in the hospital for three days. During treatment, the doctor informed them that their illness was due to the consumption of a poisonous substance.

He immediately suspected that Sangeeta, their cook, had mixed some drug into the tea and she served them, causing their health to decline.

On the evening of May 19, 2025, after being discharged and returning home, his wife noticed that her two gold bangles and neck chain were missing.

They checked the CCTV cameras installed at their home, which showed Sangeeta Soni taking out jewellery from her hands and chain from neck.

Based on the report, a case has been registered under Sections 123 and 306 BNS and is currently under investigation.
