Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The district administration and Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) seized 25 'abandoned' vehicles from two zones of MP Nagar on Sunday.

Many of these vehicles, including several luxury and high-end models, had been parked along the roadsides for extended periods, contributing to daily traffic congestion.

According to municipal officials, the action is being carried out as part of the anti-encroachment drive launched on June 20 to clear roadside traffic congestion. Led by BMC encroachment officer Srishti Bhadauria, the drive marks the second major crackdown in the city, following similar action near the New Market Dussehra Ground recently.

After repeated public announcements failed to prompt the owners to shift their vehicles, the municipal squad deployed cranes and hydra machines to tow and lift the vehicles. The vehicles were later handed over to traffic police and relocated to the basement near Dussehra Ground.

District officials including the SDM, tehsildar and traffic police personnel supervised the operation. Besides, the team also removed several illegally erected sheds, and makeshift food stalls, sugarcane juice kiosks operating in the area sans permission.

BMC to shift focus on Old City

BMC officials said they will now focus on the old city, where areas such as Teen Mohre, Taj Mahal, Benazir Ground, Tila Jamalpura Road, and Ginnauri Road continue to suffer from traffic jams and disputes due to dozens of junked and abandoned vehicles lining the streets.
