Disproportionate Assets Case: Ex- EPFO Inspector, Wife, Three Others Get Up To 4-Years RI

Spl CBI court sentences Rs 24.29 lakh penalty

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Special Court of CBI, Jabalpur has sentenced five persons including the then inspector of Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), the then senior assistant of Madhya Pradesh Financial Corporation Ltd and three others to up to 4 years of Rigorous Imprisonment in disproportionate assets case, said officials here on Tuesday. 

The court has also slapped a penalty of Rs 24.29 lakh on the convicted persons. The court held the then inspector EPFO Sagar Mahendra Kumar Gupta; the then senior assistant MP Financial Corporation Ltd district Sagar Usha Gupta (wife of M K Gupta); notary Balaram Patkar, advocate Arvind Singh Rajput and notary of district Sagar Devi Das Dubey.

Gupta and his wife Usha were sentenced to four years of RI and fined Rs 23,90,933/- and Rs 28,500 respectively. The other three convicts Balaram Patkar, Arvind Singh Rajput, Devi Das Dubey were given two years of RI with a total fine of Rs 10,500.

CBI had registered a case on May 13, 2011 against Mahendra Kumar Gupta over possession of assets disproportionate to the known source of his income. Gupta had amassed assets worth Rs 24,86,883 in his name and in the names of his family members (extent of DA-81.99%) from January 2001 to April 2011.

After completion of investigation a chargesheet was filed on August 30, 2012 against the aforesaid five accused. The special judge has also passed the order for confiscation of the DA amount of Rs 23,87,433.
