Khetia: Following the demonetisation of old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 and subsequent tizzy, ATM booths started dispensing cash on Friday. However, continuing the ordeal, large number of citizens who thronged the ATMs, found majority of the ATMs closed.
Large number of people queued up at the ATM booths of local banks, as ATMs were supposed to start dispensing cash as usual from Friday after two days of closure. But, majority of the ATM booths of SBI, Bank of Baroda and Bank of India were either found to be closed or empty of cash.
Local Krishi Upaj Mandi Samiti too remained close on Friday, adding woes to the farmers. Samiti secretary LS Sainani informed that payments for agro crops will be made to the farmers through RTGS and farmers should bring three photocopies of their bank pass book to receive the fund.
However, to some relief, the electricity distribution company has started accepting power bill amount in old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000.
Force deployed to maintain calm
Garoth: Large number of local residents stood for hours in front of banks and ATM booths to exchange old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 here on Friday. Police jawans and members of Nagar Suraksha Samiti have been deployed in town to prevent any untoward incident. However, the power distribution company has started receiving bills payments in old currency notes.
BJP workers lend a helping hand
Bagh: Local branch of State Bank of India witnessed a long queue since morning here on Friday as residents thronged banks to exchange old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 following demonitisation of the OHD (Old High Denomination) notes. Members of local BJP unit lent a helping hand to the people as they set up a camp in front of the bank and helped people fill up the KYC forms necessary for the transaction.
People need not worry: Collector
Burhanpur: Collector Deepak Singh convened a meeting with various departments and their heads to discuss the chaotic situating arising due to decommissioning of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes. Addressing the gathering, Singh said, “Locals need not worry as they can simply exchange their currency at any bank or post-office. We need to make proper arrangements so that there is no hustle at banks and ATMs.” SP Anil Singh Kushwah, additional SP Manoj Rai, district panchayat CEO Basant Kurre and joint collector ML Arya along with other policemen and bank officials were also present on the occasion.
