Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has said snakebite causes most of the deaths in the state, and something has to be done to stop such incidents.
Yadav made the statement at a function held to celebrate the golden jubilee year of the Forest Development Corporation on Thursday. There is no system of counting snakes in the country, he said, adding that preparation is underway to count the serpents.
Wildlife is a necessity, but human lives are equally valuable, he said.
The state has enough timbers and high-quality teak wood, Yadav said, adding that most of the furniture is supplied from Jodhpur to different parts of the country.
Yadav said he had interacted with the furniture dealers during his trip to Jodhpur, and he came to know that the furniture made of babul and mango tree wood was being supplied from there.
If MP supplies teak-made furniture, the world will go crazy, and the forest department should work towards this direction, he said. Those working in the forest department have an opportunity to mingle with nature, but others waste time loitering around the city, Yadav said.
It is a matter of pride that MP has the highest number of tigers in the country and that there are many roads where men move in the day and the tigers at night, he said.
The Chief Minister feels he is very fond of forests, and whenever he receives a proposal for setting up a reserved forest, he signs it without delay.
He said that he recently sent the officers to Vantara and that the number of rescue centres and zoos should be increased. The Forest Development Corporation should connect itself with this work and run ecotourism activities from the forest development centres, he said.
