BHOPAL : The probe panel constituted for investigating the Chitrakoot botched eye surgeries is yet to submit its interim report. The District Administration blamed Republic Day holiday and an ophthalmologist on the panel going on leave for the delay.
District administration had given the probe panel four days to put up its interim report. Thirty-five patients were reported to have lost their eyesight after surgery in Sadguru Eye Hospital on January 24.
Surgery was performed at Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya’s Department of Community Ophthalmology. The hospital is run by Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust.
Prior to that, two botched surgery cases had rocked the state. In Badwani, 55 patients had lost their eyesight and in Sheopur, 16 people had complained of complications after surgery. CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan has already announced that cataract surgeries would not be performed in camps in the state.
Satna Collector Santosh Mishra, while talking to Free Press, said, “The incident was reported on January 24 and I had constituted probe panel on January 25 but because of Republic Day and an ophthalmologist Dr Chaurasia going on leave, the panel could not start its investigations in time. I have cancelled the doctor’s leave. The panel would take two or three days to submit its interim report.”
