Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Center (BMHRC) removed  denture stuck in the food pipe of a 54-year-old patient from Lalitpur (UP) through endoscopy without surgery, saving his life from serious danger.

The patient was unable to swallow food for a long time and was living on liquids. He was also having difficulty speaking.

Examinations revealed that a hard object—likely a denture—was lodged in the food pipe. Multiple attempts at removal through endoscopy were unsuccessful. Subsequently, doctors at several hospitals advised surgery to extract the denture.

However, due to the patient's age and fragile condition, the operation was deemed highly risky and potentially life-threatening.

Patient out of danger

The patient reached BMHRC and considering his critical condition, emergency endoscopy was done on the same day. The endoscopy team led by Dr. Tripti Mishra, visiting consultant of the Gastroenterology Department, executed this complex procedure and succeeded in removing the tooth safely.

The patient was continuously monitored during the entire procedure, which helped in avoiding possible complications. After successful endoscopy, the patient is now able to eat normally and is also feeling comfortable in speaking.

BMHRC Director-in-charge, Dr Manisha Shrivastava said, “This case is a great example of the medical alertness, teamwork and technical expertise of our institute. We are committed to take life-saving decisions without delay, even in critical and complex cases. This success shows that expertise and promptness can make the impossible possible. BMHRC is a trusted centre not only for gas victims but for every patient in need.”
