BJP banking on women, Congress on farmers

BHOPAL: Both Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress, have been claiming victory in the state assembly elecetions. The basis behind the BJP making claim is the voting percentage of women which was 73.86%. Out of 3.78 crore votes in the state, 1.78 crore votes belonged to women voters. BJP leaders are confident that their party must have been voted by women voters in large numbers. BJP leaders maintain that the votes of women will help them in getting lead over Congress in elections. BJP had put special focus on women and had launched campaigns like kamal shakti abhiyaan.

The party had prepared a separate manifesto for women. In the manifesto, catchy promises including scooty to girls were also made. BJP had also focused on self-help groups for some time. The women voters in rural areas were brought under the umbrella of the BJP through these self-help groups. On the other hand, Congress is sure of its win in the election because of its promise of loan waiver. Congress leaders maintain Congress national president Rahul Gandhi’s promise of waiving off loan in ten-days after coming to power- made farmers to vote in Congress’s throughout the state.

The agitations of farmers in the past also made Congress hopeful that farmers must not have voted in favour of the BJP. There are 58 lakh farmers across the state, who have loan to repay. Congress hopes that it would get votes of the farmers in large numbers. Congress also got forms filled by farmers about loan waiver to make them believe that their loan would be waived off.
