Bhopal(Madhya Pradesh): A three year-old boy was swept away by the heavy current in a feeder canal at Bilkhiriya village on Monday evening. The body was fished out around half a kilometre away from the spot where the boy was last seen playing with his elder brother, said the Bilkhiriya police on Tuesday. Their house is adjacent to a feeder canal of Narayanpur dam. The canal was brimming following the heavy rain the district recorded in the past two days.

Police station in-charge Ram Babu Choudhary told Free Press the boy Saddam and his elder brother Firoz were playing outside their house around 4 pm on Monday. The boy’s father Nasir, a labourer, returned home around 5 pm and asked for his sons. The family members said that they were playing outside. When Nasir went looking for his sons, he could only find Firoz and Saddam was nowhere to be found. The boy told his father that he along with Saddam was playing near the canal.

The family and their neighbour frantically searched for the boy, they even looked inside the canal but couldn’t find him. Hours later while searching along the canal, they found the boy’s body trapped in the canal embankment.

The incident was reported to the police. Police registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem. Later the body was handed over to the family for the last rites.
