BHOPAL: Eve teasing, harassing woman and troubling them on roads make some boys very happy and when girls fight back they take it on their pride and attack back. These women have faced such incidents where they stood against those culprits strongly.

Priyanka Gupta, (name changed) 24, while returning home from Habibganj station faced something she had never thought of. She was alone walking from Habibganj to BJP office to board a bus. “A few boys in car followed me and offered me lift. When I refused they threw a paper on me, which had a mobile number written on it. I kept walking without saying anything. I threw the paper and as soon as I reached the bus stop, they stopped the car in front of me and abused me like anything. I got very scared thinking of things which could happen to me. Fortunately, my bus arrived and they left. I noted their number and immediately complained to women helpline number. They were caught and the police informed me that they were all drunk. I wanted to register a case but my family preferred to step back sensing that till now the boys had no clue about me but if I filed a case, they would get my details and could trouble me later. So I did not file any FIR but I personally feel that I should have filed the case.”

Pratibha Dhar, 40, recalls, “It was during last Durga Puja. At night we have cultural events and during one of the events light went off and suddenly my daughter shouted. The lights fluctuated a few times and she started crying the third time it went off. She told me that the man behind had been touching her every time the light went out. A few women standing around told me that they also felt that somebody touched them. I got furious and went straight to that man and slapped him many times. I even beat him up with slippers. He attacked me back on this. A few boys came and handled the matter and beat him up. I reported the matter to the police immediately who later found that he was from the army and belonged to Haryana. He was arrested and the next morning he pleaded with us for forgiveness. Till the time nobody said anything, he enjoyed teasing and touching women, that’s how his mentality was and I am sure he would have continued to trouble woman after that also,” shared Dhar.
