Bhopal: People in the state capital are apparently in a habit to increasingly encroach upon roads to park their vehicles disrupting the normal traffic, leaving no space for pedestrians and bicycle riders and ultimately leading to road accidents.
The Hoshangabad Road, which is a National Highway, just opposite to RBI, has earned the dubious distinction as far as parking on road corners is concerned.
Many telecom companies have opened their offices, in front of RBI, and visitors park their cars on the side of National Highway.
A bus had crushed a Scooty-borne woman just at RBI, Maida Mill, few months ago, as she could not find any space to negotiate the traffic when bus driver blew horn. Similarly, many road accidents occurred on National Highway, specially on the stretch which passes through city.
It is National Highway, so passengers buses and other heavy vehicles pass speedily. Under such circumstances, roadside parking becomes problematic and risky for other traffic users. Administration should take the prompt decision to check such wrong practice in the city particularly, on National Highways.” Rajesh Nema, 45, social activist
Roadside parking exposes the concerning authority which has been assigned the job of making provision of parking. It led to illegal parking on roads all over the city. Telecom companies have their own parking but it is not sufficient, visitors park their cars on road.” Anuragni Dhangar, 40, teacher at St Francis School
Roadside parking is very dangerous as normal traffic users do not find any space for the safe driving whenever public transport buses overtake. It is National Highway, so administration concerned should be very much cautious. The parking arrangement of the telecom companies is only for bikers. Four-wheelers are parked on roadside.” Dr Rajesh Sharma, 45, lawyer
