Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Senior BJP leader Uma Bharti has urged national BJP president JP Nadda to formulate a policy on liquor and get it implemented in all the BJP-ruled states.

Bharti, who has advocated total prohibition in Madhya Pradesh and has spoken against the government several times in the past few months, has written to Nadda on the issue.

“It has always been on the agenda of our party to have a drug-free society. Alcohol is also an intoxicant that prepares ground for other intoxicants. When the effect of alcohol intoxication wears off, then the person starts another intoxication,” Bharti stated.

“The story of Punjab's progress and drunken Punjab is well-known. Madhya Pradesh is also moving towards it. The new liquor policy of Madhya Pradesh can take the state towards destruction,” she added.

She said she started an awareness campaign against liquor in March, which was according to the party's policy. She said liquor prohibition was not a matter of her ego but was a social issue related to the dignity of women and security of their families, livelihood and future of youths.

“Whenever I had an important meeting on this subject, I never made it public because I was sure that some positive result would come. Because of this, many times I became the object of condemnation, ridicule and criticism due to my silence,” she said.
