BHOPAL: Devesh Kumar Sharma of Kolar was blessed with a baby boy on Wednesday at Yashoda hospital. After the birth, the doctors found that the child was having problems breathing and was put on ventilator support. It was later discovered that the child is suffering from a heart disease known as transposition of great arteries in which parallel circulation of blood takes place. It leads to oxygenated blood being supplied to only one side of the body.

When doctors informed that the child needs surgery immediately, Devesh consulted cardiac surgeons here. Since the operation is a difficult one and needs special equipment, the local doctors refused to perform the surgery here after which Devesh tweeted to PMO and Health Minister JP Nadda. The tweet was responded to by minister for external affairs Sushma Swaraj, who extended help for shifting the newborn to AIIMS, Delhi. The child was taken to Delhi on Friday evening and reached AIIMS at around 9 pm. Devesh informed that his son will be operated upon soon after the doctors examine him.

“We have almost reached AIIMS. We have a team of doctor with us from the hospital and also from AIIMS. They told us that operation will be performed as soon as possible”, informed Devesh.
