BHOPAL (Madhya Pradesh): The production, storage, transportation, purchase and sale of identified single-use plastic and plastic and thermocol-made items have been banned in the state from July 1.
Urban Development and Housing Department has issued instructions to all municipal commissioners and chief municipal officers to take action against the manufacturers, stockists, retailers and sellers of these items in connection with the strict implementation of Plastic Waste Management Rules-2016 in the state, according to state government officials. .
According to the issued instructions, single use plastic, ear buds with plastic sticks, plastic sticks used in balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, ice cream sticks, thermocol used in decoration, plastic plates, cups, glasses, forks, spoons, Straws, trays, sweet boxes, invitation cards, packaging covering cigarette packets, plastic stickers and banners made of plastic and PBC less than 100 microns in thickness have been banned.
The department conducted public awareness programs on the ill-effects of plastic to the urban bodies, registration of urban bodies on the Gravians App portal developed by the Central Pollution Control Board, review and action taken in regular meetings of the district level and body level task force.
