Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Across the city, protests against liquor outletshave been growing. Areas such as Bawadia Kalan, Ayodhya Nagar, and Patrakar Bhavan (Malviya Nagar) have seen protests with locals citing the location of such shops in residential colonies.

Administration has not paid any heed to these complaints

Women, in particular, say such outlets have become a haven for criminals. They say a liquor shop in a residential area creates problems – incidents of eve-teasing and brawls become common as criminals gather around it. So, they will continue to protest against such a vend in their locality. Meanwhile, the administration has not paid any heed to these complaints.

Local corporators assured liquor shops will be shifted

Malviya Nagar’s protester Rakesh Baghel said, “The authorities have just assured us a liquor shop would not open here. But they did not give anything in writing. Local corporators have also assured us that the liquor shop will be shifted to another place, but the protest will continue till that happens.”

Bawadia Kalan protester Rajesh Kumar said, “A liquor shop in the area ruins its environment. The complex turns into a den for criminals who often indulge in brawls and hurl abuses at the passers-by. Women cannot step out after 6pm.”
