BHOPAL (Madhya Pradesh): All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS) has started the Prime Minister's Safe Motherhood Campaign which conducts screening and high-risk identification of pregnant women.

Under the campaign, during pregnancy, screening and complications of high-risk pregnant women are managed by private sector doctors in government health institutions.

In the camps, pregnant women with symptoms of high risk during pregnancy were screened, counseled, and pathology tests, and sonography tests are done.

Chief Medical and Health Officer District Bhopal Dr. Prabhakar Tiwari informed that health camps are already being organized in district hospitals, civil hospitals, community health centers, and urban primary health centers under the Prime Minister's Safe Motherhood Campaign. This facility has also been started in AIIMS.

Due to this, the population living near AIIMS hospital will be able to get medical treatment through these camps. Hemoglobin, Urine Albumin, Sugar, Malaria, TB, Hepatitis, Oral Glucose Test, Blood Group, HIV, and Syphilis with expert medical consultation in health camps were examined. Sonography and thyroid examination are done at the district hospital level when required.

Timely identification of high-risk pregnant women is essential to minimize maternal mortality so that special care and medical facilities can be provided to high-risk pregnant women. High-risk pregnant women in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy are screened through the Prime Minister's Safe Motherhood Campaign.

In the camps, private sector doctors voluntarily provide free consultation services. Specialized medical care and counseling services are provided to pregnant women with symptoms such as severe anemia, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, reactive HIV, hyperthyroid, tuberculosis, malaria, and preoperative labor. Along with this, regular follow-up of these women is also done by field workers during pregnancy. High-risk pregnant women are provided with a minimum of 3 additional tests in addition to four routine check-ups by Gynecologists, Skylabs, and expertly trained doctors. Referrals of women to higher institutions are done by means of Janani vehicles when required, CMHO Dr Tiwari added.
