Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A 32-year-old painter was stabbed to death late Sunday night following a scuffle in Preet Nagar area under Chhola Mandir police station.

One of the accused was caught by locals at the scene, while the other managed to flee. Police have registered an FIR and launched a manhunt for the absconding attacker.

According to police, the deceased, Kamalkishor Kushwaha (32), a resident of Preet Nagar, was a painter by profession. On Sunday night, his brother Om Prakash noticed two intoxicated men vandalising his motorbike. When Om Prakash objected, they attacked him.

Hearing the commotion, Kamalkishor rushed out to intervene but was stabbed three times—on his head, abdomen and hand. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead on arrival. Local residents who gathered after the incident managed to catch one of the attackers, identified as Yuvraj, while the second assailant, Karan Lodhi, fled the scene.

Both are reportedly residents of nearby slums. Chhola Mandir police station in-charge, Suresh Nagar, said that Yuvraj sustained injuries during the scuffle and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Preliminary investigation suggests the violence erupted after the assailants damaged Om Prakash's motorcycle.Efforts are on to trace and arrest the second accused, police said.
