Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Multilingual poetry and story recitation were held on Sunday- the fourth-day of eight-day event to mark 43rd anniversary celebrations of Bharat Bhavan. Writers from different cities including Bhopal recited their works . Suman Singh narrated a story, Sadma, depicting the struggle of a labourer's life through his words.
Urmila Shirish, a recipient of Shikhar Samman, narrated a story, Khidki, in which she pointed out how the family members feel lonely in absence of children working abroad. Nusrat Mehndi recited an Urdu poem, ‘Yun thahro ki kirdar misali kar do, varna tum jao kahani meri khali kar do…’
Rishiraj Jani recited a Sanskrit story, Matri Hatya Kahani, which talks about a story of a son who is performing the rituals of shraadh on the 12th day after the death of his mother. Indra Shekhar Tatpurush recited a poem, Opium Chaate Bacche. Besides, Tripti Nagar and her troupe presented Vasant songs based on spring season, which enchanted the audience in the evening session.
A 1977 movie, Bhumika, directed by Shyam Benegal was also screened. The film is broadly based on Marathi-language memoirs, Sangtye Aika, of well-known Marathi stage and screen actress of 1940s Hansa Wadkar, who led a flamboyant and unconventional life. The film focuses on an individual's search for identity and self-fulfilment.
